For anyone of you who knows me, then you know how much I LOVE cake smashes!.. They are the best. So of course with Oliver’s First Birthday coming up in September, I have been busily prepping for his special session… (and if you are wondering why I am taking the photos now, I like to do the session in advance to use the photos for the invitation to his party)
Since I live in a house of boys.. I felt like I might as well embrace the boy themes.. So for Oliver’s First birthday I went with NFL. I found him the cutest onsie on etsy, the football diaper cover for the smash (from Blue Monkey Designs), a football birthday hat, the football cake, the football backdrop (which I made).. Everything was perfectly planned out.. EXCEPT my model.. He was a bit out of sorts…
Why oh why can an 11 month old be afraid to smash a cake??? In every other facet of his life he needs to investigate and if it’s food related, it needs to be smashed.. so Perhaps my expectations were set too high.. or perhaps It JUST has to be the photographers kid who won’t cooperate for the shoot…
In attempts to get these photos we waited a day and tried again, we bribed with sticking treats into the cake, we put toys around the cake, we moved the cake and then brought it back, we changed locations to outside.. I even held the cake.. and still the cake made him cry…
I will eventually post his full set of photos.. but here is a quick sneak peak to my very first unsuccessful cake smash…
PS. the cake was AMAZING.. from Candace, at Candy&Cake

Kristie - Hi,
I was wondering if you had any spots left in your fall mini session? What day are you shooting on?
Thanks!
Kristie
Susan - When are you doing fall mini sessions? Do you have any openings?
